The Effective Business Writing programme is designed to provide the overarching principles of good writing rather than the production of one particular type of report or document. The programme reflects that the writer and reviewer have a shared responsibility for report and document production by consisting of two elements:

  • Effective Business Writing for Reviewers Workshop (optional)
  • Effective Business Writing for Writers Course

  • What is good writing? – essentials of good writing, and personal skills and strengths
  • Purpose – defining purpose, understanding the reader’s perspective, selecting material, and writing to communicate
  • Structure – logical structuring, storyboarding, and holding a reader’s attention
  • Style – principles of good reports or documents, matching style to different reader preferences, applying journalistic principles, and writing and grammar fundamentals
  • Layout – using layout to add interest and impact, and data visualisation
